At Closure Systems International, we are committed to promoting sustainability through our closure designs and manufacturing. As part of our focus on sustainability, we have partnered with three major organizations: the U.S. Plastics Pact, the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, and the Association of Plastic Recyclers. Each of these organizations concentrates on a different aspect of environmental stewardship. Read on to learn more about how CSI is working with these organizations to promote sustainability.
U.S. Plastics Pact
The U.S. Plastic Pact is a broad-ranging coalition of activators who are working together to ensure that all plastic items we use remain circulating in the economy and out of the environment. The ultimate goal is to create a completely circular economy where all existing plastic is recycled and no new plastic is needed.
Pact activators include not-for-profit organizations, government agencies, research institutions, and businesses such as CSI. The U.S. Plastic Pact was founded by The Recycling Partnership and the World Wildlife Fund and launched as part of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s global Plastics Pact network. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation has developed the New Plastics Economy Initiative, which outlines the requirements and goals for a circular economy.

Sustainable Packaging Coalition
The goal of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) is to bring together stakeholders from across the packaging supply chain to catalyze actionable improvements to packaging systems and lend an authoritative voice on issues related to packaging sustainability. Through our membership in the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, CSI helps to create circular economies, contribute to sustainable value chains, and deliver sustainable packaging innovations.
SPC defines sustainable packaging as optimizing the use of renewable or recycled source materials. SPC also advocates for these materials sourced, manufactured, transported, and recycled using renewable energy. Furthermore, SPC promotes the creation of packaging that is physically designed to optimize materials and energy that have been effectively recovered, helping to create biological and industrial closed loop cycles.

The Association of Plastic Recyclers
The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) is a US-based international non-profit and the only North American organization focused exclusively on improving recycling for plastics. APR has four primary goals: increase supply of plastics in the recycling system, enhance quality of recyclable plastic packaging, expand demand for PCR content, and communicate the value of PCR to policymakers and companies.
As a member of APR, CSI is enhancing plastics recyclability and driving reclamation and recycling efforts in circular economies. APR’s resources help companies like us design packaging that can be recycled and support innovations that overcome existing recycling challenges. The organization also encourages stable and reliable markets for post-consumer recycled content, helping to generate demand for packaging that contains recycled material such as CSI’s PolyCycle content.
