JUNE 14, 2012 - INDIANAPOLIS, IN USA - Closure Systems International's new Xtra-Lok mini® 'S' 28mm closure for the short-height carbonated doft drink bottle finish features a best-in-class lightweight design that delivers improved packaging cost and sustainability, superior CO2 performance, and enhanced impact resistance. "Compared to the first generation short-height closure design, the total material savings in the improved mini S design is over 10 percent," explained Clint Rush, CSI Global Marketing Manager for Carbonated Soft Drinks. "Virtually all areas of the closure were very carefully evaluated, and select areas were re-engineered to yield substantial material reductions - with no sacrifice in performance. On a typical truckload order, the material savings will amount to over 4,000 pounds of plastic. This translates to a reduced carbon footprint and significantly less plastic in the packaging. On the volume scale that bottling customers use annually, this second generation closure delivers impressive environmental and economic sustainability improvements," said Rush.
Critical closure performance criteria on which Xtra-Lok mini S excels include: superior CO2 retention, consumer-preferred ease of opening, secure tamper evidence and robust impact performance. "While delivering weight savings, the new mini S closure design meets or exceeds the first generation cloture performance in all respects," Rush stated. The mini S closure include CSI's rugged and reliable XT line, as CO2 retention throughout the supply chain provides important competitive advantage for bottlers and protects brand taste and freshness for consumers. "The closure offers several knurl pattern options to deliver improved consumer ergonomics, by being easier to open and close, along with providing the highest safety," highlights Rush. The mini S cap also incorporates CSI's patented bead behind the wing tamper band for maximum package security.

CSI provide a global network of experienced Technical Service personnel to ensure fast, trouble-free conversion and bottling line start up. "Bottlers can quickly adopt the new lightweight closure with minimal adjustments," according to Rush. The high performance mini S is engineered to work for packages ranging in size from 250ml up to 3 liters in volume.
